Teach For Tanzania program is grounded in the local leadership driven approach created to prepare  cohort members to have a transformational impact in underserved schools.

TFT’s fellows and alumni will make a game-changing impact in increasing the learning outcomes of children and youth whose their future lives and learning outcomes are determined by family socio-economic circumstances and places of birth. TFT prepare our future leaders to work against barriers that hold children back; we recruit and select Tanzania’s diverse and promising future leaders to channel their energy into expanding opportunity for all children.

The ultimate long term goal of Teach For Tanzania is to develop a robust leadership pipeline of teachers and alumni leaders with the capacity, skills, and mindsets to work towards ending educational inequity in Tanzania.

Recruitment, Selection & Matriculation

Teach For Tanzania attracts, identifies and recruits recent outstanding Tanzanian university graduates of diverse academic background to serve as full time teachers in marginalized communities with high need of teachers.

Intensive Residential Training

The fellowship journey starts with 6-weeks intensive residential training in pedagogy and leadership. During this time, fellows will get an introduction to pupil-centered teaching methodology, leadership training, lesson planning and more

School Placement

Fellows are placed in a high need, under-resourced public primary schools as full time teaching staff for 2 years. Fellows  work with the existing teachers to increase student learning outcomes while mobilizing community members to engage in school activities.

Ongoing Training and Professional Support

Throughout the two-year fellowship, TFT teacher-leaders continue to receive weekly individual and team coaching support from their program coordinator (a tutor) to grow in their roles as teachers and leaders.
